The breast clinic at Centro Medico Santagostino is focused on the prevention and early detection of breast cancer through clinical exams and diagnostic ultrasounds.
The clinical breast examination is recommended in the case of breast abnormalities such as alterations of the skin or nipple, nipple discharge, breast pain, the appearance of thickening or nodules in the mammary gland.
In the absense of symptoms the exam is advised if a breast screening (mammography, ultrasound) has indicated alterations that should be further evaluated.
The first clinical breast examination is recommended at the age of 28/30 years and should be performed once a year thereafter, possibly in conjunction with a breast ultrasound.
After age 40, regular mammograms, accompanied by a clinical examination and possibly an ultrasound, are recommended for early detection.
