The department of Physiatry of Centro Medico Santagostino deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all movement disorders. Due to different pathologies, it may become difficult, painful or impossible to perform simple movements. This creates a major loss in the autonomy and in the patient's quality of life, such as orthopedic damages (arthralgia, osteoarthritis, post-operative trauma, disabilities caused by accidents) or problems due to neurodegenerative diseases (multiple sclerosis, outcomes of acute and chronic brain events as hemiparesis etc.).
The physiatrist is concerned with assessing the patient's motor deficit, taking into account the underlying disease and all its consequences, including the psychological ones, and the social impact that this "damage" has got on the patient. The approach of the physiatrist is global because it considers the person in all aspects of his life ( work, sports, social and family relationships, expectations etc.).
The physiatrist relies on the collaboration of the physiotherapist, to whose experience and ability entrusts the patient after the clinical diagnosis and the formulation of a specific rehabilitation program.
